Matthew Ryan Ahrens 09/26/75-11/25/12 Matthew Ryan Ahrens, 37,went to his Heavenly Home on November, 25, 2012 as the result of a tragic airplane crash in Sevier County, Utah. Matthew was born September 26, 1975, in Bakersfield, CA to Donald and Mary Ahrens. Matt was a 1993 graduate of South High School in Bakersfield. He attended the University of Southern California, pursuing a degree in engineering. Matt was a vivacious, protective, intelligent and confident person who valued family and friends and had an amazing zest for life. He was never afraid to try new things and lived for the moment. Matt could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. At a very early age he would take apart anything mechanical to make it work better or faster. He later followed his father and brother's footsteps and became an automobile mechanic. He last worked at White's Energy Motors as an Auto Service Technician in Gillette, Wyoming where he made his home for the last three years. Matthew was a true adventurer, achieving his pilot's license and owning his own plane. He enjoyed the outdoors and motorcycles. His two constant companions were his two well-loved dogs, Brittany and Indy who also passed away with him. Although Matt's life was short, those close to him know he lived life as if the quality far exceeded the quantity of time in which he lived. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and loved ones. He is survived by sisters: Donna (Robert) Moran, Debbie (Dennis) Bolender, Dianne (Michael) Bryant. Brother: David (Peggy) Ahrens. Nieces: Rachael (Steve) Hendricks, Erin (Morgan) Demers, Amber (Russell) Lamb, Elizabeth Bryant. Nephews: Adam Ahrens (Stefanie Garrison), Ethan Bolender, Nathanael Bryant, Zechariah Bryant.Preceding him in death are parents Donald and Mary Ahrens, grandparents Ruben and Mary Snook, Louis and Augusta Ahrens, and nephew Jeremy Ahrens. Also joining Matthew in heaven are the special "girls" in his life: Trista Meyer and her daughter Shyann Lenz. A memorial service will be held on December 22, 2012, 1:00pm at the church Matthew was baptized and confirmed in: St. John's Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road, Bakersfield, CA 93311. www.bakersfield.com/obits
