Ray Rimmer(1922 - 2013)

Ray Rimmer April 29, 1922 - November 8, 2013 Ray was born on April 29, 1922 in Picher, Oklahoma to Edward and Lydia Rimmer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, F. Lorene Rimmer, his parents and 8 other siblings. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Alvin Shultz, daughter, Judy Price, and son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kim Rimmer. He left five grandchildren: Aaron and Justin Shultz and Dawn, Austin and Alyssa Rimmer and five great-grandchildren. On December 23, 1941, at the age of 19, Ray joined the US Marine Corps. His service to his country included participation in the initial landing on Tulagi, S.I. on August 8, 1942 and the capture and occupation of Guadalcanal between September 15, 1942 - January 20, 1943. He was discharged as a Corporal on December 22, 1945. He was always proud of his service to his country as a Marine. In 1949 he married Lorene Hudson. In 1951 Ray and Lorene moved to California where he started working for Standard Oil Company. After more than 30 years of service he retired. After retirement Ray and Lorene were able to enjoy traveling and visiting their extended families around the country in their motor home. They spent many weekends camping with friends in the camper club. Ray was a simple man, a hard working and honest man. He never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors and working with his hands. Ray was not just loved by his family but respected for his outgoing and easy demeanor. He was without question one of a kind. He was a wonderful husband, father and grand-father. He will be missed by his family and those that knew him. Private graveside services for the family will be held at Greenlawn Southwest on November 22, 2013. www.bakersfield.com/obits
