Robert C. "Bob" Bangs( Robert C.)

Robert C. "Bob" Bangs 1932 - 2011 Robert Bangs passed away peacefully on July 9, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born in Los Angeles, CA, to Clark and Lillian Bangs, Bob spent most of his adolescence in the Bay Area. After graduating from Berkeley High School, Bob spotted his future wife, Terry, on the campus of Contra Costa Junior College. Shortly after they married, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. Following his service, Bob obtained his Bachelor's and Master's of Education. His teaching career spanned 34 years, most of which was at Wasco Union High School. Highlights of his career included the founding of the WUHS Jazz Festival, leading the band in East Coast performances for the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration, and heading the Jazz Band Tour of Europe. Outside of teaching, Bob was known as an avid fisherman, recognized twice by the state for catching the largest Golden Trout in California. He enjoyed gardening and driving his 1931 Model A Ford. Bob was also an active member of the Wasco Elks Lodge. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Bangs; and his daughters, Susan Hoffmann and Kathy Whitaker. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Terry; daughters, Lauri Dahlin (Michael) and Marlynn Verdugo (Joe); sister, Leni Lane, sister-in-law, Bobbie Bangs; sons-in-law, Brett Whitaker and Brian Hoffmann; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob's passing will leave a void in the lives of his family and friends. A service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane. Interment will be on Monday, July 18, 2011, at 9:15 a.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mtn. Blvd. Donations can be made in his name to the . Greenlawn Mortuary
