Susie Mae Dragoo(1916 - 2013)

Susie Mae Dragoo May 20, 1916 - March 26, 2013 Susie Mae Needham Dragoo was born in Plainview, Texas, May 20, 1916, to Jess and Myrtle Finster. In June 1924 the family, including Susie's sister, Jessie, and brother, Jay, traveled to Taft, California. Susie grew up in Taft, attending school there. In 1936 Susie married Leland Needham. During World War II, she was a "Rosie the Riveter" in an airplane fabrication factory in Taft. They moved to Bakersfield in 1950 with their two sons, Dennis and Eugene (Doug). In 1952 Susie went to work for her sister, Dr. Jessie Gregory, an orthodontist, as a dental assistant. She worked for her sister for 34 years and retired at 70, in June 1986. She married again in 1963. She was a member of the Kern County Dental Assistants Association and the American Business Women's Association. Susie is survived by two sons, Dennis and Carmen Needham, Eugene (Doug) and Robbi Needham; granddaughters, Mende Silva, Margo Needham; four great-grandchildren, Eric, Emily, Alexander and Mairi.
