Tom Ryman Porter II( January 13, 1927~ January 21, 2013)

Tom Ryman Porter II January 13, 1927~ January 21, 2013 Late afternoon on Monday Tom slipped from our finger tips to waiting arms of loved ones on the other side. Tom had a full, rich life and lived life on his own terms. He was patriarch of a large loving family and will be deeply missed. Tom, the eldest of 3 sons and 1 daughter, was born on January 13, 1927 to Tom Ryman and Ritchie Hodges Porter in the city of Carthage, Tenn. Leaving his childhood home after graduating high school, Tom served his country in the Navy during WW II. After an honorable discharge at the conclusion of the war he went to visit his brother Jim in California where he met his first wife, Annabelle Sportsman. After a brief engagement, they wed and settled in Taft, Calif. Along with raising 3 fine sons with Anne, Tom worked for Standard Oil of California (Chevron), starting as a roustabout and retiring as a pipeline district supervisor in 1986. They enjoyed retirement until The Good Lord called Anne home in 1990. Tom was blessed to find love once more and wed Lorene Clark on July 24, 1991. Tom enjoyed being active with family & friends. Golfing, RVing, hunting, fishing, and square dancing were some of his favorite activities. He was also a long time member of the Bakersfield Elk's Lodge. He and Lorene are active members of the Calvary Bible Church. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Lorene; brother Kenneth (and Jean) Porter; sons Mark (and Darla) King, Tom (and Toody) Porter, Bill (and Lori) Porter, and Michael Porter, along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Tom was greeted at Heaven's gate by his parents; sister Elizabeth Annetta; brother Jim; first wife, Anne; and grandson John.
