Vincent Leonard Cody(1929 - 2013)

Vincent Leonard Cody October 19, 1929 - March 21, 2013 Vincent Leonard Cody was born October 19, 1929 in Carnegie PA. Vincent passed away on March 21, 2013. He was the fourth of 5 children to an Italian immigrant family. His Father Guiseppe Codispoti was a Tailor by trade while his Mother Mary took care of the children. Dad's Father met an untimely death along with his sister Eleanore the same year. The family moved west to California in the 1940s settling in Los Angeles. Dad began working at the age of 16 years to provide for his mother and brothers Anthony, Joseph, and Carmen who preceded him in death. He got a job with Western Auto driving a delivery truck through the western United States after beginning work there at 16 years old. In 1951 Dad was drafted into the Korean conflict where he served on tanks in the 1st Calvary, 7th Armored Division. Attaining the rank of Corporal, he was honorably discharged earning a Purple Heart. He enjoyed some R and R time in Japan with some good stories to be told. Returning to the States to Los Angeles he landed a job with United Airlines, eventually becoming Station Agent in Bakersfield where he joined the Catholic Social Club. While in the Social Club he went on a blind date with Shirley Ducklow, a registered nurse from Saskatchewan, Canada who was continuing her nursing career with a job at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in the operating room. Vince and Shirley began dating, eventually getting married in December of 1958. Their union brought two sons; Vincent Jr. and Michael. The family enjoyed many good times, with vacations all over the west and Canada. Dad drove a truck the majority of his life, as an owner operator for Woodland furniture, then various tank lines hauling oil and fuels. Dad and Mom enjoyed their retirement years RVing and meeting new friends with the California Heartland Chapter of the FMCA, Visalia Elks Vagabonds, and joining the Italian Catholic Federation at OLPH Church. Vince and Shirley were married 54 years, enjoying life to its fullest. Vince leaves behind wife Shirley; son Vincent Jr. with wife Tracey; son Mike with wife Tonia; and grandchildren Andrew, Sarah, Victoria, and Alexandra Cody.
