Wallace L. Pitchford(1930 - 2013)

Wallace L Pitchford November 10, 1930 - September 16, 2013 Wallace L. "Wally" Pitchford of Bakersfield passed away in hospice care on Friday, Sept. 16, 2013. He was born in Three Oaks, Michigan on Nov. 10, 1930. Mr. Pitchford served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a musician in Special Services, a squad that entertained troops in camps throughout the war zone. Upon his return, he found his calling as the Dir. of Sales at the Hacienda Hotel, starting in 1961. The hotel business took him from Bakersfield to Fresno, San Diego, San Francisco, and Honolulu, where he was Dir. of Convention Sales for Sheraton Hotels in Hawaii. He was married for 40 years to his beloved wife, Ruth, who passed away in 2003. The oldest son of Lyle and Nellie Pitchford, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronald and Donald Pitchford, and one sister, Delores Kofahl. He is survived by a daughter, Geneva Chinnock of Redlands, California, son Charles Pitchford of Denver, and stepsons Douglas Shaver of Honolulu and Tom Shaver of Blacksburg, Virginia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Pitchford will be interred at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield.
