My family lived across the alley and one house west on Wilson road from 1954 to 1964...my mom was lead into breeding of Pekingese with Gloria and so we always had at least 8 adult dogs and a couple of boxes full of puppies at our house. Randy and Greg would swim in our above ground 4´ pool along with Gary and Judy Rimmer, who lived next door to them. I did get to visit with Gloria a bit in 1994 when in Bakersfield to sell my moms house when she passed (Gerry Whitsitt) and yes the wedding portrait was still in the entry as it was so long before.

I had the good fortune to work with Gloria breeding dogs for many years. I learned so much from her, and I credit any success I have had with my dogs to her. She was an artist and her artist's eye showed itself in her breeding as well as on canvas. She created a line that was the basis for so many in the Lhasa Apso breed. What will we do without Gloria?

To all of the Fowler Men... "Randy, Greg, David, Brian, Matt, Drayton, my son Blake and the Master Musician and Gloria's Husband Bob." For Marilyn and Meagan, too!
My memories are clear, and I can say there was never ever anyone as unique and amazing as "Gramma Gloria". I was lucky enough to come to know Gloria's intelligence, fantastic personality, and her big heart during early 80's! Her Artistic Talent in Oils, her constant innovative re-doing of her walls, pictures, furniture, cabinets in her home. Her love of plants, Asian and Oriental bamboos, as her back yard was a dreamy oasis and her peaceful place to go. She was one of the most "well read" persons I've been blessed to know. On the lighter side, a few memories.
Randy and I came home and there was a lawn chair sitting directly in the middle of our back yd facing our back fence. Sitting in it was Gramma Gloria, under our huge walnut tree. I asked "Why are you sitting there looking that way?" She looked at me with the most sincere smile.."When meditating, one should always sit facing East"... I loved that.
We were invited, just Randy and myself, to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving or Easter, in Bob and Gloria's beautiful dining room. It was lovely, and after a great meal, suddenly we hear "puppy noises"...There were, in fact, about 4 or 5 Lhaso Apsos pups with their Momma in a crate directly under the beautiful dining table where we were all enjoying a great meal together!" That was a great day.
Gloria and I connected immediately as we both shared a great love of art and painting. I cannot tell you all of the great "treasures" we found together or lovely gifts I'd receive from her for "art / creative" projects to work on. These are good memories.
When we put the pool in, our yard needed lots of landscaping and HelP! Every Thursday night, after Randy and Bob played their weekly "Senior Dance in Porterville at the High School", I was so lucky to receive lots of containers and garbage bags full of her plants that she literally dug up from her beautiful yard that she shared with me. It was overwhelming, but I had such fun planting them. I asked what to plant where and her response was "Just plant everything anywhere...don't think about it...What lives, lives. Enjoy the process." I loved that. I loved her.
Never ever could there have been a better Mom to Randy and Greg, and the best and most "kicked back" and "easy going" Grandmother to David, Brian and Blake, who got visit her many, many weekends growing up. Those boys were so lucky to have one of the most loving and fun Grandmother's ever. She touched so many lives and her unique friends who share her love of dogs will agree.
A personal note to Bob Fowler...I am so so sorry that you lost your beautiful Gloria, Your BEST Friend.
Love Therese Fowler-Bailey and Blake's other Gramma Maxine

Dear family,
Despite knowing Gloria's health wasn't very good for quite some time, her passing away came as a shock to me.
I had the good fortune to meet Gloria in 2001 when I was visiting the United States. She was a remarkable woman. She will be missed, but will always be greatly appreciated for what she has contributed to the breed.
Her legend will live on...
With deepest sympathy,
Lori Collins
