Howard Lee Weimer

1923 - 2012

Howard Lee Weimer June 4, 1923 - December 28, 2012 Howard was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on June 4th, 1923 to his father and mother, Samuel and Elsie Weimer, and grew up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. On June 18th, 1947, Howard married the love of his life, Thelma Mae Smith in Burbank, California. They were married for 62 wonderful years until her passing in December of 2009. Howard served in the Army infantry as a combat engineer and spent 34 months in the European Theatre. He was involved in the invasion of Normandy, along with four other major battles, including the liberation and defeat of Germany during World War II. Howard had an 8th grade education, but a Ph.D in life. He had lived through the Great Depression, World War II, and was very proud of his Oklahoma roots. Howard loved camping, hunting, and fishing with his family, and loved to watch Dodger baseball and Oklahoma football. One of the things he enjoyed most of all was his cornbread and milk. In 1966, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ, and became active member of his church. He and his wife also cared for over 300 foster children in their home. He owned and operated a small auto repair shop from 1953-2000. Howard is survived by his son, Dwight Weimer, daughter-in-law, Leticia Weimer, daughter, Roberta Smith, grandson's D.J. Weimer, Sean Weimer, Aaron Weimer, and Howard Weimer, granddaughter's Cheryl Urioste and Renee Valenzuela, great-grandchildren Cheyanne, Ashlynn, Little D, and Brooklyn, grandson-in-law, James Urioste, and granddaughter-in-law, Tara Weimer. Howard is preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel and Elsie Weimer, his wife, Thelma Weimer, his brother's Orville Weimer, Carl Weimer, Charles Weimer, and Claude Weimer, and sister-in-law, Beatrice Weimer. There will be a memorial service for Howard at the New Covenant Church, located at 800 Airport Drive on Monday, January 7th at 7 pm. There will be a viewing at Greenlawn Southwest on Panama Lane on Tuesday, January 8th from 9-11 am, with a funeral immediately following at 11:30 am. The service will be officiated by Kenneth Noel and Tommy Cooley. Afterwards, we will proceed back to the New Covenant Church for lunch at 1 pm. Our family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice for all of their special care and assistance. Howard's greatest legacy will be that he loved God, his family, and our country. He was truly a Christian man in every sense of the word. We all live in the in the land of the free because of the brave people of his generation. They don't make men like our Papa anymore.
