Sue VanderNoor Obituary

Sue Carol VanderNoor March 25, 1939 to March 27, 2013 Sue Carol VanderNoor, 74, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2013. She was born in Los Angeles on March 25, 1939, to the late Paul and Lillian Kennedy. Sue is survived by her daughter, Julie VanderNoor Urner; son in law, Bryan E. Urner; son, Jeff VanderNoor; and granddaughter, Emily Urner. Sue graduated from Reseda High School in 1957 and moved to Bakersfield when she was 18 years old. She was involved in modeling when she arrived and later worked at the Kern County Assessor's Office. In the 1970s, after the birth of her children, Sue began working with Getty Oil Company. After a few years, she decided to take a break from the workforce and spend more time at home. As her children got older, Sue began to search for a new career path. Sue was a very caring person who put others before herself. It wasn't a surprise that she decided to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from Nursing School in the mid 1980s and held many jobs over the years. She worked in the NICU and was a dialysis nurse. But, her longest stint, and the one that she was most fond of, was her 4th floor Telemetry job at Memorial Hospital. Even when the job was difficult, she always enjoyed the social aspect and always spoke highly of her "crew." In 2008, Sue retired from nursing. She was able to spend more time with Emily, the greatest object of her affection. She also enjoyed her American Needlepoint Guild friends. However, Sue's greatest love was that of her family. She was an amazing person, mother and friend. Sue will be missed by all of those that knew her. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Susan Helper, Dr. Hansa, the entire 4 West Staff at Memorial Hospital, Mike Richert, and other friends who have helped during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, April 1, 2013, at Valley Baptist at 1 P.M. with a reception to follow. www.bakersfield.com/obits

While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. Sue will be solely missed by all who loved and knew her. My deepest condolences to all of Sue's family.

Sue was a wonderful person and a great R.N. I was part of her 4th floor telemetry "crew" for many years and Sue was much loved by the bunch of us, especially by me. She was an intelligent, insightful, caring individual, who will never be forgotten by me or the many others who cared for her greatly. I know where you are now, and you are with OUR LORD. I will see you again someday but until then I will miss you. Most important I still have my memories of you and the good times that you brought to the 4th floor gang.

Julie and Jeff I send my heartfelt prayers to both of you. My memories of her growing up bring a bright smile to my face. She was such a wonderful person and mother! We share the same painful journey of our mother's but the mark they made on the community and those that were blessed to be in their presence proves that we were blessed as children to call them ours! Your mom's legacy will not be forgotten.
