Pierre Adrien Jauretche
1938 - 2018
Pierre Adrien Jauretche passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 22nd. He was born in Uhart-Cize, France in 1938 to Pierre Victor and Beatrice Jauretche. He immigrated to the United States in 1956, eventually settling in the Los Angeles area working in the landscaping industry. In 1973 he married Marie Therese 'Maitecha' Bachoc at St. Margaret Mary church in Chino and in 1982 welcomed their only child, Pierre Charles Jauretche. The family eventually settled in Bakersfield in 1994 to be closer to the Basque community here.
Pierre Adrien was an honest and hard working man who worked as a landscape contractor and a dairy farmer as various times in his life. While his original stated goal was (jokingly) to earn enough money to buy a Jaguar and return home to the Basque Country, he eventually fell in love with his adopted home country of the United States; he was never seen without a patriotic Bill O'Reilly cap covering his head, much to the chagrin of his 'pinko communist' son. When said son would ask how a man could leave the rolling green of the Pyrenean foothills for the scorching sun-blasted landscape of Bakersfield, he would only say, "where else would I want to be?" Pierre Adrien was preceded in death by his parents Pierre Victor and Beatrice, and his wife Maitecha. He is survived by his son Pierre Charles. Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Friday August 3rd at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Los Angeles Catholic Worker at 632 Brittania St. Los Angeles CA, 90033.

Many great memories. One on the dairy farm with Pierre, Pierre Charles, Maitecha, and my folks. Witnessed a calf being born with the help of Pierre. Pierre will always be a good memory. Thank you for being a part of our lives. Pierre Charles put a perfect description on Facebook of his dad if he was to enter heaven's gates. Great beginning description to a sad ending. However, every death is sad so it must be dealt with in a way we can cope with. Accept, move on, think about good times. RIP Pierre!
