Genevieve Craig Obituary

Genevieve Katherine (Seeger) Craig 1919 - 2010 Genevieve Craig peacefully passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on September 19, 2010. She was born in Bakersfield on November 21, 1919, to Henry and Reeta Seeger. She graduated from Kern Union High School and Bakersfield College. She earned her B. Ed. from Fresno State College and M. Ed. from University of Arizona. She married Arthur Craig on September 14, 1941, and was a devoted wife until his passing in 1993. They were blessed with two children, Marcia and Randy. She and Art enjoyed potlucks and trailer trips with their friends and kicking up their heels with the local dance club, as well as trips to Meadow Lake and Shaver Lake with her sister's family. In their later years, she and Art enjoyed many trips to their trailer at Morro Bay. Genevieve was a teacher for the Richland School District in Shafter from 1948 - 1956. When the district decided to build a school library, she became the first district librarian, continuing in that position until her retirement in 1985. She taught library science classes for San Jose State Extension and was a consultant to several California schools that were developing school libraries. She was active in California Association of School Librarians, serving in regional, state, and section offices, and received its Life Membership Award. She also was involved with Richland Teachers Assoc., AAUW, PTA (honorary life member), and a Chapter President of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was also involved in the Kern County Fire Dept. Women's Auxiliary, being the wife of a KC firefighter. Faith and family were most precious to her. Although she worked full-time, she was actively involved in her children's activities, being a leader for Camp Fire Girls and Cub Scouts, Guardian for Job's Daughters, and president of the local American Field Service (exchange students). She was faithful to the Congregational Bible Church of Shafter, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Women's Fellowship president. She also attended the women's Bible Study. For many years Genevieve and Art cooked spaghetti for the church Couples Club annual fundraiser. She served faithfully and unselfishly in all that she did. When her health prevented her active participation, she was a devoted and resolute prayer warrior to the end for family, church members, and friends. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Reeta Seeger; husband, Art; brother, Hank Seeger; and daughter-in-law, Judy Craig. Survivors include her children, Marcia (Bob) Krause and Randy Craig; sister, Dorothy Neuman; grandchildren, Cari Craig, Kristian Krause, DVM, and Michael Krause; great-grandson, Lucien Krause; and five nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful care-givers from Interim Assisted Care, the ICU nurses at Mercy Southwest, her friends who encouraged her with cards, phone calls, and visits, and her sister, Dorothy who faithfully visited her each week. She looked forward to each visit. We especially thank Pastor Mike for his many visits, encouragement, and comfort. Mom is now at peace in the arms of her Lord. A celebration of Genevieve's life will be held at the Congregational Bible Church on Thursday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, at Peters Funeral Home, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy., Shafter, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Congregational Bible Church, 430 E. Tulare St., Shafter. Although I never heard Genevieve express in words her credo, from her actions it certainly must have been (1) "Always do the right thing.", and (2) "Get it done."

In my life I have never known anyone more earnest, hard-working, industrious, kind, giving and selfless than she was. Never waivering from her duties, shouldering her share of the load plus that of others, yet always quick with a smile, kind words, and willing to listen to others troubles.

Genevieve Craig, Juggernaut of Good, may you rest in peace.

What sorrow I experienced upon hearing of Genevieve's passing. But far offseting was the joy I felt knowing that through her love of Christ she was swept into the arms of God.
From first knowing her in 1966 I have felt honored by the way her life touched mine. What a fine example of service she displayed to me through her teaching of the children of the Richland School District.
Our deepest condolences to Genevieve's families during this time of sorrow.
May God bless & comfort you all!

Sincerely in Christ's Love,

Liz Seeger

My dear Sister-in-law ... I shall ever think of you with love, and thanfulness, that you were always there for me with your beautiful smile and listening ear. Sleep well with our Lord, who was always your love and strength. Until we meet again.
