Eleanor Soza Obituary

Eleanor F. Hernandez Soza 1925 - 2010 Eleanor F. Soza, 85, of Bakersfield, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. On Tuesday, Nov. 9th, viewing will begin at 5:00 p.m. and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10th, 9:00 a.m., at St. Francis Church, 900 H Street. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Eleanor was born in Winslow, Arizona on June 25, 1925 to Romula Federico and Feliciano Hernandez. The family moved to Bakersfield when Eleanor was 3. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Lincoln Junior High and Kern Union High School (BHS). She married Frank G. Soza on October 4, 1947 in Bakersfield, CA. Mom was a quiet, gentle person with a strong faith and firm convictions. Her great passions were her family, her garden and playing the piano. She tended to her carnations and rose bushes, and could make anything grow in her yard. She canned fruit from her own trees during the summer, and made delicious cobblers all winter long. Mom was "our angel". Eleanor is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank; children, Linda Soza Carbajal; Ruben, wife Shirley; Patty Araujo, husband Albert; Frank, wife Pachita; Anna Gutierrez, husband Jose; U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Stephen, wife Anglia; Theresa Acosta, husband Stanley; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Feliciano, Louie and Eddie Hernandez. She is also survived by special in-laws, Tina Soza, Guadalupe Cota, Eleanor Hernandez, Pete Lupercio and Lupe Magana. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Abelino and Paul Hernandez, Juanita Portillo, Soledad Ornelas, Hope Lupercio and Gloria H. Saldana. We would like to thank the doctors and staff who cared for our mother at Parkview Julian Convalescent Hospital as well as the caregivers from Mercy Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the charity of your choice. www.bakersfield.com/obits
