She had a long career teaching elementary school children. She loved her family and was passionate about travel, antiques, quilting, reading mysteries and historical fiction, playing bridge, genealogy and ice cream. She loved the mountains and the beach. In 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Martin L. Scherer. They were married for 36 years until Martin passed away in 1988.
Judy is survived by her two children-Karen Watts (Richard) and John Scherer (Rebecca); her brother-in-law-Kert Scherer; five grandchildren-Miranda Wilson (Asa), Lauren Courtemanche (Dan), Adam Scroggy (Amber), Alexis Rahder (Colby), and Andrew Scroggy (Andrea); five great grandchildren-Wesley, Logan, Samantha, Amelia and Sadie Rose; two nieces-Katy and Laura; one nephew-Doug; and 2 grand nephews-Andy and Max. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred C. and Jewell E. Gilbert; her sister Patricia Smythe; and her husband Martin L. Scherer.
She was an elegant lady, humble, pragmatic and fiercely independent. She lived a full life, surrounded by a loving family and good friends. She will be sorely missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Sandra Epp,a co-teacher, with you was so special. The meetings when you two met was always a boost for her, especially during her treatments and down times. You were one of the greatest asset to her during your teaching careers. We were with you during Martin's home going and you were there for Sandra and me during Sandra's treatments. Friendship between the two of you was signified with the many treats you always allowed us to sample and then followed with the copy of the recipes. But the essence of your gentle and caring spirit was magnified by the students you taught as an exemplary teacher. Werner Epp
