Ronald Croxton Obituary

A graveside service will be held for Ronald Lawrence Croxton at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Ron was born in Tulare, California November 5, 1939 to James and Velma Croxton. After a lengthy illness, Ron went to be with the Lord March 4, 2016.

As a young boy Ron attended several grade schools prior to the Croxton family settling in Ridgecrest, California. Growing up Ron was always at his father's side. He learned the value of hard work, how to serve his family, care for a home, work on cars and take meticulous care of his tools. In 1958 Ron graduated from Burrroughs High School. He eventually moved to Bakersfield and went on serve a 4 year apprenticeship in the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers, where he was a proud member for 50 years. In 1980 Ron was elected by the brotherhood to serve as Business Manager. He held the office for 3 years. On June 22, 1984 Ron married Yvonne, his soul mate. They were best friends and enjoyed camping, traveling and time spent with family. Ron spent many weekends hunting, and off-roading in his 1968 Ford Bronco. Ron had a life-long love of football. He was a loyal fan of the USC Trojans. Fight on! And, he never missed a game.

In 1953, as a young boy of 13, Ron was baptized at 1st Missionary Baptist Church. The scripture found in Micah 6:8 perfectly characterizes Ron's faith... "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Ron was a devoted son, lovingly caring for his parents until the time of their death. Ron is survived by his wife of 32 years, Yvonne Croxton, his children Edward Croxton and Tina Minton, step daughters Lisa and son-in-law David Johnson, Lynda and son-in-law Don Rush, Lillian and son-in-law Brad Whittington, twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his sister, Betty and brother-in-law Henry Miranda and his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Thu Yein, MD with Kaiser Permanente for the extraordinary care he provided that contributed to the quality of Ron's life. The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Sharon Smith, MD, Jana, Marissa, Jennifer, Chris, Julie and Chaplain Lorenzo with Optimal Home Health and Hospice.

Ron will always be remembered as a quiet, funny, kind and generous man. He was a loving husband, and a caring father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association.

My memories are of Ronald's mother, Velma. My Mum began doing substitute teaching when I was 6 or 7. "Grandma Croxton" watched me after school. I loved her root cellar and her sweet gentle Spirit!! It sounds as if she raised Ronald to have the same Spirit! Also, I remember lying on the couch when Measles struck! See you both again one day!! I love Micah 6:8....

I went through apprenticeship with Ron and found him to be a very nice man. Worked a few jobs after that to my pleasure.
