Phyllis Martens Obituary

Phyllis Martens 1931 - 2010 Phyllis Martens was born July 20, 1931 to Bertha and Denzil Dooley in Rinard, Iowa. She went home to our Lord Jesus Christ November 18, 2010. She played high school basketball and always followed the Lakers. Phyllis married Robert Martens and together they raised four children, Robert, Don, Dan and Annette. They moved to California in 1970 settling in Delano, CA as Bob worked for John Deere. Phyllis was a member of The American Legion Merle Reed Post 124 Woman's Auxiliary and was a past District President. She loved our country and serving it in her way. Phyllis was a great writer and had a feisty personality. She was preceded in death by the love of her life husband, Bob; parents, Bertha and Denzil Dooley; daughter-in-law, Kim Martens; and special friend of the family, Coby. She leaves behind to cherish her memory 4 children; son-in-law, Dean Poynter; her sister, Marion; and many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and her adopted family, The Prather's. Services will be conducted at The American Legion Hall in Delano on November 29th, at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at a later date in Iowa.
