Sampson Cravens Obituary

Sampson Richard Cravens 1926 - 2012 Sampson Richard Cravens was born November 3, 1926 in Stigler, Oklahoma, to Elmer and Olive (Davis) Cravens. Sam served in the army during WWII, and was proud of the time he dedicated to this great country. After leaving the service he married Edith (Eacret) Cravens on November 9, 1951 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Sam was a hard working man, who spent almost all his life in agriculture; he drove tractor for Crettol Farms for nearly 50 years. Sam was also proud of his garden, and he loved to brag to others about what he was growing. Always a social person, Sam never met a stranger. He was always quick to talk with others, and he never missed an opportunity to witness to those he met. The Lord played a large role in Sam's life. He and Edith attended the Freewill Baptist Church in Wasco, and Sam often stated that his biggest regret in life was that he waited so long to give his life over to God. Sam was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith; his parents, Elmer and Olive; and a grandson, Jerry Martin Jordan III. He is survived by his children, Maxine and husband Donald Coble, Paul "Sonny" Kniesley and wife Sarah, Richard Cravens, Wanda and husband John Halberg, and Dena and husband Denny McClain; as well as, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Friday, April 20, 2012 beginning at 10am. Pastor Danny Scott of the Freewill Baptist Church of Wasco will officiate at the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Crettol Farms for their generosity showed to dad over the years. When my oldest son met met Sam, they didn´t know they were related. My son told Sam, His grandfather was Harrison Sumner. From then on they hit off. When ever Jeremiah had to go to the farm and work on the tractors. I´m am so happy my son got meet him.

I was sorry to read about your dad's passing, Skip. He was one of the "Greatest Generation", the one's that helped make this country great. I know from the stories you told me about him how very proud you were of him. May he rest in peace. My condolences to you and the rest of your family. Bill Gruber
