Ailene Ruby Cleary Obituary
Ailene Ruby Cleary February 22, 1922 - December 20, 2012 Ailene Ruby Cleary went to be with the "Angels" on December 20th, at her home for five years at Brighton Manor in Bakersfield at the age of 90. Born in Huntington Beach, CA to parents Beatrice and John Jiles (JJ) Stilwell from Tennessee. She graduated from Bakersfield High School "Class of 39" and attended Lufkins Business College. Her father "JJ" was a decorated ex-marine and went on to become the number one driller for Shell Oil. Her mother "Bea" taught classes in lampshade making and porcelain painting at the adult high school. In 1940 she married Forrest Cecil Gess, whose father, Frank Gess, founded Santa Fe Drilling Company. They had one daughter named Jacqueline. Forrest was killed in action, in 1945 at Luzon in the Philippines in WWII. Ailene married James "Jimmy" Patrick Cleary in 1948. He was an Army veteran and had worked for Standard Oil Company. They had one son Richard "Rick". James passed away in 1978. Ailene worked for many years as a secretary and bookkeeper for King Lumber Company and later as a secretary to "Woody" the librarian at North High School. We have great memories of our Mom, her cheerful laugh, graceful dancing, meticulous office work, and amazing talent for sewing. She enjoyed going over to the Coast to spend time with her family. Loved to stand on the pier, feed the birds or "People Watch". Her giggle will be missed. The grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss their visits with her in her long journey home. She is survived by her daughter, Jacque Gess Balmain (husband Jim Balmain); three grandchildren: Christy Balmain Hummel of Bakersfield, Mark Balmain and Forrest Balmain of Valencia; five great grandchildren: Cassie Simpson, Chase Simpson, Autumn Hummel of Bakersfield and Remy and Evan Balmain of Valencia. Her son, Rick Cleary (wife Karyn) of Nipomo; two grandchildren, Kristine Cleary (her boyfriend Aaron), Patrick Cleary (wife Candice), all of Nipomo; granddaughter, Tracey Cleary Battisoni; and great granddaughter, Hudson of Bakersfield. Words cannot express the appreciation we have for Anette Pellens at Brighton Manor for all her love and care through our mom's long journey with her stay with her. Also thank you to Angelina, Amanda, Stacey, Madison, Melanie and especially Sally who was with her in her last moments. A special thanks to Dr. Edwards Nichols. She is at peace now with the Angels. Thank you to all at Hoffmann Hospice who helped each and every time we almost lost her. They had so much love and compassion all through the years. Special thanks to Ron Bell and his visits to the home as she loved and enjoyed flirting with him. Private family services are planned. www.bakersfield.com/obits
