Alfred "Al" Moreno passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born on August 29, 1924, in Bakersfield, California to Pablo Moreno and Rumalda Alvarado. His mother passed away when he was a young child and his older sister "Concha" (Concepcion) Alderete played a major role in his upbringing. Al served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1943-1946, serving as an interpreter at an Italian POW camp in Ohio and duty in the Philippines. He returned home to Bakersfield and courted the lovely Anne (Esperanza) Aguilar. They were married in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on December 16, 1950. Al worked for the Kern Valley Meat Packing Company in Bakersfield for many years before becoming a meat inspector for the USDA and relocating the family to Fresno, California. He retired from the USDA at the age of 62. Al loved golf, spending many hours of his retirement with his friends known as "The Bandits".
Al was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Anne; his beloved sister, Concepcion (Concha) Alderete, and his loving niece Susan Alderete Deutsch. He is survived by his eight children, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 2838 N. West Ave., Fresno, CA, Thurs., May 12, 2016 at 10 AM followed by internment at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
