Alfred Santa Cruz 1928 - 2012 Alfred (Guero) Santa Cruz was born to Jose and Antonia Santa Cruz in Bakersfield, CA, on June 15, 1928, and passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on July 6, 2012. Alfred was a Korean War veteran. He served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army. While in the military, Alfred specialized in artillery, particularly howitzer weaponry. He received several honors upon discharge from the military, which include: Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal. Following his discharge from the United States Army, Alfred attended school to become a television/radio technician. Alfred owned and operated "Al's TV Repair" for nearly 30 years in Bakersfield, and subsequently became known to many as "The T.V. Man." Along with being a successful businessman, Alfred had many additional talents and gifts. He loved to build. He knew everything about construction, from flooring to roofing. Chances were that if you had a problem in dealing with construction, he could fix it, build it, or advise you on it. Alfred loved camping with his family and friends. He loved taking his family to the park, and he especially loved holidays when his entire family would gather together. There was one thing, however, that Alfred enjoyed doing more than anything: That was to dance with his wife, Rachel. Together they danced at least four times a week. Their love for music and dancing together was evident each time they held one another on the dance floor. She was his "Ginger," and he was her "Fred." Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Antonia Santa Cruz; brothers, Mike Parra, Joe Santa Cruz, Socorro Santa Cruz, Andrew Santa Cruz, and Henry Santa Cruz; sisters, Esther Parra, Lupe Santa Cruz, Ramona Garcia, Angelita Arvizu, and Mary Louise Felix; along with numerous in-laws and extended family. He leaves behind his beloved wife and dancing partner of 59 years, Rachel A. Santa Cruz; son, Robert and his wife, Lisa Santa Cruz; daughter, Pat and her husband, Jesse Pino; daughter, Peggy Reyes; son, John Santa Cruz; and daughter, Barbara Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Adrian and her husband, Roger Bevan, Anthony Santa Cruz and Rachel Santa Cruz, and Adam Pino and Jessica Pino; great-grandchildren, Joseph (Colorado) Bevan, Jonathan (Conejo) Bevan, and another Bevan on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Louie and wife, Linda Santa Cruz, along with many other relatives. The family would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice for their wonderful care, support, and compassion provided during our difficult times.
