Allen Frank Abbott Jr. Obituary
Allen Frank Abbott, Jr 1920-2013 Allen "Frank" Abbott Jr. was born April 23, 1920 in Bakersfield, CA to Allen and Estie Abbott. Frank and his sister, Viola attended Beardsley School then went on to Kern County Union High School (Bakersfield High) where he played the trumpet and belonged to the American Legion Baseball Team. Frank met the love of his life, Dorothy "Rusty" Raglan while attending high school and they became high school sweethearts. They were married on May 15, 1939 and had two children, Larry and Beverly "Bunny". Frank was working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Conductor in 1944 when he was called to serve his country. He enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to Admiral Fletcher on the USS Concord, CL-10, which fired the last shot of WWII. After he attended the ceremony of the signing of the surrender of Japan, he was able to return home to his family. At that time he joined the Masonic Order, Lodge 466 and went to work for Standard Oil Refinery until his retirement in 1980. In 1980 he joined the Bakersfield Shiners and helped sponsor children whom had medical needs. Frank and Rusty traveled with the Shriner's Caravan to various ceremony's across the US, Mexico and Canada. Being a member of the Masonic Lodge and Bakersfield Shrine Club was a wonderful fulfillment in his life - Those Were the Days! When Frank and Rusty decided not to travel as much, they spent their summers in Pismo Beach enjoying the cooler weather, golf and gathering with the wonderful friends they had met in Pismo over the years. When going out of town was no longer an option for them, they spent the remaining years of life together at their home of 72 years. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Allen Abbott; mother, Estie Abbott; sister, Viola Kidder; son, Larry Abbott; grandchildren Terri Ann and Sharon; and many wonderful friends he met along life's journey.
