Andrea "Andi" Sanchez-Monroe Obituary
Andrea Sanchez-Monroe, 51, of Bakersfield, CA passed away at her home in Northeast Bakersfield on May 17th, 2015 around 1 o'clock in the morning, after a 4-year battle with an extremely rare cancer. Andrea is survived by her parents Vincent & Adeline Sanchez, her husband Bill Monroe, and their three children; Breanna Ceja, Savannah Monroe, and Jacob Monroe. She is also survived by her three sisters; Stephanie Sanchez, Valerie Gonzalez, and Rebecca Calderon. As well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Andrea, known to her family & friends as Andi, was born June 5, 1963 at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, CA. She was the oldest daughter of Vincent & Adeline Sanchez. Andi graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 1981. She began work at Sparkle Cleaners at the age of 16 and continued working there for 16 years. There she met Bill Monroe, and they later married on May 20, 1995 in Las Vegas, NV. Andi received her pharmacy technician license and began working at Vest Drugs Store, and later Mercy Hospital.
Before she had children, Andi was already a motherly figure to many. She was a very gracious and caring individual that never turned her cheek to someone in need. Through her years, Andi was an active volunteer for many organizations and even a foster parent. She taught kinder-catholic at OLPH, volunteered at the Jameson Center, St. Vincent de Paul, and Our Lady of Guadalupe. She worked at St. Joseph Church in her later years and continued to spread the word of God through her helping hand and kind heart. She was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma in January 2011 and her journey has since inspired many people to always enjoy life, and no matter the circumstances, keep pushing forward.
Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1515 Baker St. in Bakersfield, CA. Visitation will begin Wednesday, May 27th, 2015 at 4:30pm with the Rosary at 6:00pm. Mass will begin Thursday, May 28th, 2015 at 10:00am with a graveside service to follow at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jacob Monroe, Tyler Sanchez, Tony Gonzalez, Robert Calderon, Teresa Sanchez, Robert Granado, Jonathan Monroe, and Isidro Lopez. A reception to celebrate the life of Andi will be held at The Eagles Club, 1718 17th St, Bakersfield, CA immediately following the funeral.
The family of Andi wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the 3rd floor staff at the AIS Cancer Center for all of their help over the last 4 years. Also a very loving thank you to Andi's very special best friend, Marisela Jacinto. Thank you for being a fourth sister to our Andi.
