Angelina "Angie" Maria Martin died unexpectedly in Bakersfield, CA on June 2, 2016 at the age of 83.
Angie is survived by her husband, Bob; adult children: Rick and spouse Susan; Vicki and spouse Dan, Robert and spouse Connie; Russell and spouse June; Teresa and spouse Scott; Randy and spouse Kim; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces and numerous "adopted" kids. Angie is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Aloisie Repka, siblings Evelyn Eldredge, Aggie Bayus, Julius Repka, and Louise Bishop.
Angie was born on April 20, 1933 in Agua Dulce, Texas. Angie attended local schools in Alice, TX. She came to Bakersfield at 18 to visit relatives and met Bob in a movie theater. During "Annie Get Your Gun" their love affair of 64 years began. Bob and Angie wed on August 3, 1952 at St. Joseph's in Bakersfield.
Over the course of 15 years, the couple welcomed six children into the family. Angie worked at Pacific Bell as an Operator until the family made a decision for her to become a stay at home mom. She often spoke of her career and the choice she made to "sacrifice" for the sake of family and raising kids. There are many "adopted" children that can testify, along with the family, that she made a great choice. Angie became very involved with various groups over the years including TOPS, OLPH Women's Guild, Bowling, Faculty Wives at EBHS, school based projects at Noble, Washington, and EBHS and was always there cheering at any of the kids events or parties. She was a lifelong Cowboy fan.
Angie never spoke bad of anyone and had the most welcoming spirit. She was loving, forgiving, and a great example of wonderful wife, mom, grandma, aunt, and friend. She had an incredible sense of humor, quick wit, a beautiful smile, and always enjoyed a good dance, meal, or party. Through six children, the Martin home was the spot for many scheduled and unscheduled parties and Angie was always there to host, cook, and love on people. There is so much to say about (great) grandma Angie, Mom, Angie the friend and our Texas Rose. We are thankful for the time we had with her and know that all that knew her were blessed as well.
A visitation will be held on June 8th from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for June 9th at 9:00am at OLPH, 124 Columbus St., Bakersfield.. A Celebration of Life and burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery at 10:30am. The family would like to thank the staff at KMC for their efforts and care.
