Anita "Annie" Maria Cornejo 8/22/1922 - 12/2/2013 Our Mother and Grandmother went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2013, at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 22, 1922, to Guadalupe Vasquez and Pedro Valles. Her father was a professional musician who instilled in her a never ending passion for music. She became an accomplished violinist, playing in numerous ensembles and symphony orchestras. Later in life she learned to play the piano. At the age of 21 she moved to San Francisco during WWII to work as a welder in the shipyards. After moving to Bakersfield, she met and married the love of her life, Frank Cornejo, on August 2, 1947. Together they raised five children. They established several businesses: Frank's Meat Market, Cornejo and Sons Market and La Colonia Restaurant. She also ran her father's business, Harmony Records. She was devoted to her family, very loving and generous, taking great joy in cooking and serving those she loved. Annie leaves behind her brother Luis, sister Angie; children: Vickie Mondragon (Temo), Frank Cornejo (Dora), Joe Cornejo (Yolanda), Jimmy Cornejo, and Gloria Ruiz (Pete); 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her sister Carmen and brother Tony. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at First Pentecostal Church, 1418 W. Columbus St. at 11 a.m., reception following. www.bakersfield.com/obits
