Anna Louis Obituary
A cryptside service for Anna Joyce Louis will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. before the service.
Anna was born in Martha, Oklahoma, into a very happy and loving family with parents, Gean and Rosa Asbury; sisters, Lucille Starr, Mildred Wilson, Wilma Royal, Dorris Seguine Vliet; and brother, Vincent (Jim) Asbury, who are all deceased.
Dad and Mom started dating at 16 and 17. It must have been love because they were married and it lasted 59 1/2 years before Dad passed away. Shortly after Dad was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Bakersfield where he had a job waiting for him.
Dad and Mom were active members of the Olive Branch Community Church. Mom held several different offices there, Women's Ministry, Church Council, and taught Sunday School, just to name a few. Dad and Mom were coordinators for the senior sack program through the Golden Empire Gleaners for 14 years. She was a Brownie leader, and her favorite was working at the Christian Life Center "Growing Tree Preschool" (what is now known as Olive Drive Church) until it closed.
She always liked to be involved in many things: Grapettes Wives and Daughters luncheons, OBCC Coffee Muggers, and her Thursday Girls at Red Robin with friend Gretta Kidd.
Preceding her in death were her husband and best friend, Winford (Louie), and their youngest son, Duane. Survivors: Son, Darrel (Janet) Louis of Santa Cruz; daughter, Brenda (Peter) Tafaro of New Orleans; and Mike Seguine, who they affectionately referred to as their third son. Known as Meme to her nine grandchildren, Shane Shopshire, Travis (Sherry) Shopshire, Wesley Louis, Nathan (Sondra) Louis, Casey (Hallie) Louis, Wendee, Sophie and Claire Louis, Daviana Seguine. Great-Meme to Samuel (Paola), Stephen (Ashley), Shannon, Brandon, Noah, Ashlee, Cecelia, Isabella, and Sebastian.
Mom loved her church and church families, and her wish was in lieu of flowers or donations, please donate to the building fund at the Olive Branch Community Church, 12000 Olive Dr. Bakersfield, CA 93312.
