Antonia Hernandez Obituary
Our matriarch has left us. Antonia Marie 'Toni' Hernandez passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014. She was born the second child to Marin Garcia and Mary Alvarez Garcia on Novembver 27, 1933.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Michael, her son Paul and her brother Jesse. Antonia is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Linda, Steven and wife Tracy, Larry and David; her brother Marino; sisters Angela and Rose, also by her brothers-in-law Bob Flint, Gordon Miller, and Al Mendez; sisters-in-law Helen Coy and husband Cliff, Cecelia Arango and Laverne Garcia, along with 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Toni was always quite the live wire as a young woman. She was active in the Madres Del Camino (a CHP wives club). She was a room mother, a Cub Scout den mother and a second mother to many. She spent a lot of time hauling her 5 sons, cousins and friends to cub scouts, baseball games, countless practices, JBA games, Jack Frost games, wrestling tournaments and rodeos. She was an enthusiastic supporter of all her sons and grand children's sporting endeavors. Toni was a terrific cook and homemaker; her homemade tortillas were 'to die for'.
After her sons had grown she began a new chapter in her life as a teacher's aide at her alma-mater BHS. She worked there for over 20 years with her friends Elsie Sanchez and Aggie Castro. She led an active life - she enjoyed time with her Bunko group, pinochle, her Ole Hide Beach group, weekly bible studies, her Birthday group and going to the movies with her siblings.
Our mom, grandmother, sister and aunt passed, now free from pain and has joined her husband, her son and other loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 9:30am at St. Phillips the Apostle on Stockdale Hwy
