Arthur Musick Obituary

Arthur Hayes Musick Jr. December 11, 1935 - September 9, 2010 Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 11:00 a.m., at the LDS Chapel in Oakhurst, CA for Art Musick, a long time resident of Bakersfield who passed away at his home in Coarsegold Thursday. Art was born in Childress, Texas, the youngest of 5 children of Arthur Hayes Musick Sr. and Janie Pearl (nee Chadwick). When Art was 5 years old his family moved to the Bakersfield, California area. He often told stories of his youth. The love and fun he shared with his three older brothers, Jack, Leonard and Harold, and his sister, Wanda Bushell. Art graduated in 1953 from Kern County High School and shortly thereafter joined the USAF in the Air Police division. Art served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1962. While in the AF he served a year in Korea in the K-9 unit. On his return to stateside was stationed at Mtn. Home AFB where he met and married Lynn in January of 1956. While serving the last 4 years of his enlistment at Moses Lake AFB Washington Art became a marksman traveling around to the different matches. He shot a 22, a 38, and a 45, winning many metals. He was an excellent shot winning his 'leg' on the distinguished shooters. Art and Lynn had 5 children. Two sons: Steven who lived in Bakersfield, CA, Michael of Enumclaw, WA, three daughters: Shannon, Sharon, and Sheryl all of Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter-in-law, Mica Musick; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Musick; his three daughters and their husbands, Shannon and Ken Ricks, Sharon and Chris Alcock, Sheryl and Shannon Rock, and their families; his brother, Harold and wife Lorraine Musick. Art has 27 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Janie Pearl Musick; two brothers, Jack and Leonard; his sister, Wanda; a grandson, Ron Mota; and his oldest son, Steven. Art loved playing golf. His love of this game led him to retire in YLP where until his health deteriorated you could find him on a golf course 3 or 4 days a week. Art, though seemingly quiet, had a great sense of humor and his children who loved him dearly have always delighted in playing jokes on him. One of his birthday cards said they had thought about getting him some new longer distance balls but decided he wouldn't want to hike any farther into the woods to get his ball than he was now. On a gift of golf balls one of them wrote a note to the effect that why didn't he take golf lessons so they wouldn't have to buy him golf balls on all of the holidays for fathers. Art actually beat the course record holder here at YLP. The official record was 58 - Art shot a 56, though two other players witnessed it; it was not witnessed by two Men's Club Members. So his score was not "official", but still an exciting and wonderful moment for Art. Art was a gentle and humble soul and if the greatest gift a father can give to his children is to love their mother, our children certainly received this gift. Art's strong belief in our Savior Jesus, and his willingness to serve was always a source of strength and an example for his family. Art had a beautiful voice and was always singing. His memory for songs was astounding. My Art... Until that wonderful day when we can be together forever, your songs, your jokes, your smile, your strong ethics, your sweet loving, kind and gentle nature will be a source of strength and comfort in our hearts and lives. We love you. www.bakersfield.com/obits

"My Art", I wish I could had seen your reunion with mom! I can imagine that it was beautiful. How she missed you and loves you! You would had been proud to see how she went on for these last 14 years with strength, courage, and such love! She lived life to the fullest and yet you never left her thoughts and remained her one and only love. I know that she is back by your side where she always wanted to be. We all miss you and now we will miss mom.
I hope to be as faithful and true to your name with the same strength and energy as mom, I will do my best and I look forward to seeing both of you when my time is finished here on earth. I love you!

My Art, I miss you still and always! Our family has grown so much over the years since you have been gone, but the love we feel for you has not diminished one bit! It grows and grows and your name is still being used with Great Grandkids given by Grandkids that knew, miss and love you! You are still my love and my life has such a hole in it since you are gone. I love you My Art....Corky
