Arthur Keys Obituary
Arthur Keyes was born in Bakersfield, CA on February 18, 1938 to Geneva and John Keyes. He passed away on October 1, 2015. One of 12 children, he attended Lincoln School before graduating from Bakersfield High School, where he met the love of his life, Judy K. Miller. After she threw her books into his path, from a second story window in Warren Hall, they shared a loving marriage for 57 years.
Arthur had a 22 year career as a truck driver, hauling for Standard Oil, Unocal and Chevron. He and Judy raised four children together and Art was always the troop leader, team coach and often under the questioning eye of his sons, an umpire. While raising their family, he always enjoyed camping, trips to Shaver Lake and annual trips to the circus.
He lived to watch his children and grandchildren compete in sports and excel in school activities. He spent thousands of hours on the sidelines, in the stands or in the bleachers watching football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, oral language festivals, spelling bees, history day competitions, cheerleading competitions, dance recitals and theater performances.
In later years, Papa, as he was known to his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening, watching old movies and reminiscing with the "men with a purpose" and lifelong friends from the Clifton Street neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ten of his brothers and sisters. He was fiercely proud of his children, who will miss him dearly: sons Brian (Monica) and Kevin (Jennifer) and daughters Cindy Pollard (Mark) and Stephanie Olesh (Mark). In addition to his wife and children, Arthur is survived by one brother, Alfred Lee Keyes (Stella); his grandchildren Dustin Keyes; Brittany Ruffin (Deon); Spencer and Chad Pollard; Jessica and Brandon Keyes; Alexis Olesh; and great grandchildren Rylee and Miles Keyes and Maci and Madden Ruffin. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our family would like to extend its appreciation to Dr. William F. Baker, Jr. and Dr. Tommy Lee, and the staff at both offices for their care and support of our father.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 10:00 a.m., at St John's Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 E. Brundage Lane, Bakersfield, 93307.
Arthur will be laid to rest among members of his family at the Historic Union Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
