Arthur Leonard Rockoff Obituary
Arthur L. Rockoff, 90, died March 5, 2015 in Williamburg, Virginia. Graveside Services were held on March 11, 2015 at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Art was born in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Max and Rose Glasser Rockoff. He attended Oak Park/River Forest High School and following graduation he enrolled at Northwestern University before being drafted into the Army Aircorp as a flight officer. Following World War II, Art received his BS in accounting from UCLA and became a CPA in 1950.
In 1975, Art moved to Bakersfield where he was associated with Sage International, then became president of Sage Music Mart and later had an additional career as a realtor, all while continuing his accounting practice. He was founding president of the Greater Bakersfield Development Corp, served as a City Councilman from 1981-1985, and was involved in the life of Temple Beth El. One of his greatest pleasures was appearing in over 30 local theatrical productions with BCLOA and BMT.
Art is survived by Eudice Colman Rockoff and children, Marla Benjamin and Erik Sterling. He is also survived by his wife of 26 years, Janice Deaton Rockoff, children Sherri Lawrence, Shana Starrh, and Scott Deaton, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
