Arthur Merritt "Artie" Kindig Sr. Obituary

After a long and courageous battle with West Nile Virus Disease, Arthur Merritt "Artie" Kindig, Sr. passed peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2016.

Artie was born in Iola, Kansas to parents Harold "Ike" Kindig and Ruth Kindig who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his dear mother-in-law Dalcie Stubblefield and best friend Loyd Dickey. Art is survived by his wife Linda (Stubby) Kindig, his son Arthur Merritt Kindig, Jr. and his grandson Joseph Kindig in Bakersfield and a brother Randy Kindig in Portland, Oregon.

Art attended Standard and Beardsley Elementary Schools and North High School. After the family relocated to the central coast he attended Santa Maria High School where he graduated in 1961. Artie returned to Bakersfield and attended Bakersfield Junior College and continued his education graduating from Fresno State.

Art was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for over 30 years. Upon their retirement he and his wife Linda moved to Florence, Oregon. While in Oregon together they enjoyed biking, jogging and kayaking on the lakes. Artie loved sports and played football, baseball, and basketball, and was on the high school swim team. He enjoyed doing woodworking, traveling and was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers football team and the San Francisco Giants baseball team. Artie was a classic movie buff and loved animals especially Gypsy his cat and Livi and Katie his dogs. They returned to the Central Coast in California where Linda cared for Artie until his death, Artie was a fun, loving guy who loved to have a good time and was always on the move. We will miss him dearly.

A graveside Catholic service will be held at Greenlawn Mortuary on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at 2:00 pm. Officiant will be Msgr Stephen Frost from Christ the King Church.
