Arturo "Arty" Sanchez Jr. Obituary
Arturo "Arty" Sanchez Jr. was born in Bakersfield, CA on May 29, 1993 to Arthur and Elvira Sanchez. He grew up as the youngest in a large family, with three older sisters and an older brother.
He excelled in sports and academics. As a young boy he loved gymnastics, and won three gold medals in his competitions. He realized his talent and started his hustle at a young age. Arty refused to do flips for his parents' friends until they pulled out their pocketbooks. He was a member of the swim team, volleyball team, played club soccer for the Bakersfield Bombers U17, and played for the soccer team at Ridgeview High School. His favorite number was nine, thus all of his jerseys were number nine. He enjoyed going to watch and support his favorite teams at the L.A. Dodger games, the L.A. Kings hockey games, and L.A. Galaxy soccer games. Excelling in academia, Arty was a member of the academy for all four years of high school. He was in ASB, elected senior prom king, a member of the drama club and was thrilled to be involved in their musical performance of Westside Story.
He graduated from Ridgeview High School in 2011. He then attended and graduated from Taft College with an Associates of Arts degree in Communication and Liberal Arts in 2014. Transitioning from Bakersfield, he moved to Los Angeles and was attending L.A. Community College to earn more credits to transfer to Northridge in the spring of 2016. His first job was at In-N-Out Burger, and he stayed with them for four years. He enjoyed flipping burgers and meeting several celebrities when he transferred to the North Hollywood location.
Arty loved to have fun, listen to popular music and dance with his friends. His sense of style surpassed those around him and he was always dressed to the nines. His laughter was contagious and his spirit was full of everlasting fervor. His smile lit up every room he walked into and he always exuded joy to any situation. He was heavily involved and a devout Catholic. Arty always had a giving nature and genuine kindness to help others in his family and community. Arty was also very crafty, with a romantic spirit. A bit of a mama's boy, he loved surprising his mom with great trips for just the two of them, making her origami bouquets, and ceramics.
He is survived by his parents, Arthur and Elvira Sanchez, and siblings, Graciela, Kristina, and Amanda Sanchez, and Timothy Hensley, all of Bakersfield, CA. He also leaves behind his grandparents Eduardo and Graciela Anchondo and Gilbert and Celia Sanchez, his nieces and nephews Sophia, Ryan, Madelyn and Brooklynn, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He will be greatly loved and missed by his family, friends and community. The viewing will be Monday September 14th at 6:00p.m and the funeral services will be Tuesday September 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Church
