Audrey A. Johns Obituary
Audrey A. Johns September 24, 1929 - August 14, 2012 Audrey was born to Charles and Matilda Allen September 24, 1929 in Bakersfield, California - the youngest of three daughters. Audrey worked in the family business, Pioneer Allen Cleaners, while attending and after graduating from East Bakersfield High School. She met her husband, Floyd, while working the counter at the cleaners. They married in 1950 and had three children. Audrey tirelessly volunteered for many of her children's activities. She was an exceptional leader for both girl scouts and cub scouts. Audrey was also a member of the Amoiselles and enjoyed playing "99" with friends. She could defeat nearly everyone at ping-pong while making it look effortless. As her children grew, she became an avid golfer and made many friends at the local courses. After Floyd's retirement, they relocated to Morro Bay, where Audrey became very active in the Morro Bay Women's Golf Club. She held a number of offices in the club and became known as the "cookie lady" for providing beautifully decorated cookies for tournaments and other events. She played golf twice a week and always walked the course, even during chemotherapy. When she was not on the golf course she could be found working in her garden or making beef jerky, dried fruits, cookies and jelly which she presented to friends and family in lovingly prepared packages at Christmas. Audrey is preceded in death by her parents Matilda Allen and Charles Allen; sister and favorite tennis partner Susan Torres; and her husband of 58 years, Floyd Johns. Audrey is survived by her sister, Madge Danielson of Dubai; step-daughter Trina (Jerry) Vancuren of Bakersfield; daughter Jana Johns of Stockton; sons Mark Johns of San Pedro and Karl (Brenda) Johns of Bakersfield. Her grandchildren include Jim Vancuren, Jennifer (Tom) Irvin, Jason (Tracy) Vancuren, Angela (Ruben) Rodriguez, Nikole Johns, Chaz Danielson, Lissa Danielson, Sara Gonzaga, Armand Johns, Laura Johns, Sam Johns, and Aaron Johns; she was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. At her request, no services are planned. The family would like to thank Hospice Partners of the Central Coast; and caregivers Maureen Murphy, Kate Bringle and Michelle Murphy for the exceptionally respectful and compassionate care they provided Audrey.
