Augustina, 75, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband Jose Urrutia by her side. She was born February 24, 1939 in Bakersfield, CA to Maria Lopez and Jesus Estrada and had three brothers, Jesus, Manuel and Robert. Augustina is survived by her devoted husband Jose Urrutia and five children, Samuel Macias, Manuel Macias, Anna Macias, Irene Castanon (Alfredo Sr.) and Lisa Herrera (Robert) as well as her grandchildren Monique, Matthew, Victor, Celeste, Angelica, Alfredo Jr., Miranda, Agustina, Jonathan, Gabriela and Sophia and her great- grandchildren Jacob, Aryanna, Andrew, Khaleesi, Mia and Emily.
Augustina, also known as Dena, was a loving daughter, wife and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known as a hard working woman. As a teen Dena worked in the cotton fields and became a strong Caesar Chavez supporter and also supported the United Farm Workers of America. She was proud to say that she personally met Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. She met President Obama at the Caesar Chavez Memorial, located in La Paz. She worked for the Department of Human Services for 28 years before she retired in 1995 to spend more time with her husband and grandchildren. She was a devoted Catholic all her life and lived to serve our Lord. She was known for her touch of style and caring heart. With her husband at side she loved traveling far and wide, cherishing time with friends and family. Beautiful, elegant, kind, and loving, Dena was a genuine friend to all. She was the heart, soul, and essence of our family, and we are forever grateful for her love and for the generosity, dedication and strength that she instilled in all of us. Our family would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice's caregivers Anna, Mona and Denise for helping with the care of our beloved mother in the last days of her life.
