Barbara Loftin Obituary

Barbara Ann Loftin 1933 - 2010 Barbara Ann Loftin passed away at her home on Monday, October 25, 2010. She was born October 10, 1933, in Zephyr, Texas, the daughter of the late Mildred D. and Robert Frank Burton. She lived in many states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and New Mexico, due to her father's job. During junior high and high school, Barbara played on the girl's varsity basketball team. She obtained her certificate in Beauty Services and went to work in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Throughout her young life, Barbara worked various jobs as a meter maid, served on the Board of Directors of the Golden Age Group, and campaigned for the presidential elections of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Barbara devoted a generous amount of time volunteering for organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Barbara also volunteered at the Monahans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, which was then known as the "Pink Ladies." This is where she met and fell in love with her husband, Norman Odel Loftin, in 1965. On September 24, 1966, Barbara and Norman married in Wickett, Texas. They moved their family to Victorville, California, in 1968 and made California their permanent home in 1974. Barbara and Norman enjoyed over 30 retirement years spent remodeling their home in Corona, taking vacations to Carmel and Pismo Beach, and visiting with their family and friends. She often reminisced about games and trips taken with close friends. Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She will be remembered for her thick Southern accent and incredible cooking. Barbara was loved deeply and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Norman Loftin, their six children and spouses, eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Frances Cazares for loving and caring for Barbara and Norman during the past months. Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Ln. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits

Barbara Lofton was my cousin. My grandmother and her mother were sisters. I was raised in Kentucky and I am Madie Clasby granddaughter. I came in 1992 to visit Barbara from Kentucky when they lived in Riverside California. I know Bert Kenny and Keith were her sons. I am so sorry for their loss I just noticed that she was deceased and I wanted to give you my condolences.
