Barbara Ann McQuin Obituary
Barbara Ann McQuin September 22, 1932 - August 21, 2013 Barbara Ann was called to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on August 21, 2013. She was born to and raised by wonderful Christian parents on a cattle farm in eastern Kansas. Barbara inherited from her parents, Lee and Margaret Uden, a musical legacy. Barbara played the piano, clarinet (first chair) and sang. Barbara was a planner and she knew the value of hard work. Barbara attended Pittsburg State College and Wichita University for music. She married her high school sweetheart in 1950, and they moved to Bakersfield, California, in 1954, where Tom taught school. Barbara worked for Bell Telephone Company for a few years before they had children, and she was a homemaker and did volunteer work until the children were older. Barbara had a passion for helping others. She led a county organization to help abused children and counsel troubled parents. She traveled to Washington, D.C., to procure funding for what is now called The Jamison Center. She was President of the Highland-Wingland PTA. When she finally went back to work, she was the personal secretary to an associate pastor, Dave Heil of First Baptist Church; and then went to work for Bob Hodel of Hodel's Restaurant as a manager-coordinator for 25 years. She loved the staff and enjoyed leadership and working with the four restaurants. Barbara is survived by her faithful husband, Tom, of over 62 years; her children, Robin McQuin (Sandra), Rhonda Barksdale, and Lane McQuin (Lisa). Her six grandchildren are E. Nikkolas, Cameron and Katie Barksdale and Rebeca, Brandon and Sophia McQuin. Barbara also loved and cared for eleven foster children over the years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. A chapel service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. We want to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers from Optimal Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be given to the Gideons International, Bakersfield South Camp, P.O. Box 1629, Bakersfield, CA 93302, to purchase Bibles.
