Barbara Jane Carlisle Cassady 1926 - 2013 Barbara Cassady passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2013. She had spent the weekend surrounded by family. She was born May 9, 1926 to Clyde and Mabel Carlisle of Ducor, CA, where she grew up on the family farm with her brothers Clyde Jr. and James. Educated at Porterville High School, she received her B.A. at UCSB, where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She went on to teach at Emerson Junior High. She married Eugene Cassady in June 1950. While on their honeymoon, Gene was recalled to the U.S. Navy and sent to South Korea. Upon his return, they lived in Los Angeles and North Hollywood. In 1955 they returned to Bakersfield and built their dream home in Old Stockdale where they raised their six children. Barbara enjoyed camping with her family, annual trips with her "Dirty Dozen" friends and in particular she enjoyed golfing at Stockdale Country Club, where she was a member for more than 50 years. She was active in St. Francis and St. Philip churches and schools as well as Garces Memorial High School. She was also active in Junior League and Golden Empire Gleaners. She is survived by Gene, her husband of 62 years; her brother, James and his family; her children, Dan, Jim, Brian, Paul, Michael and Jeanne and their spouses; nine grandchildren and their spouses and one great-grandson. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends worldwide. A special thank you to Danielle at Around the Clock and to Hoffmann Hospice. Services: Thursday, March 21 - Viewing 6:00 p.m., Rosary 7:00 p.m. at Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara, 1100 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA. Friday, March 22 - Funeral 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 7100 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, CA, followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield.
