Barbara M. Farnsworth December 29, 1920 - April 13, 2013 Barbara M. Farnsworth passed away Saturday, April 13 of natural causes. She was 92. Born in Bakersfield to Leo and Dessie Fedewa on Dec. 29, 1920, Barbara was raised on the Standard Oil Lease in Fellows. After completing high school and attending business school in Taft, she married her devoted husband, the late Kenneth Miller Farnsworth on July 25, 1942. Together they raised 4 children in Texas and Bakersfield. A devout Catholic, Barbara was a regular parishioner at our Lady of Perpetual Help, and saw that her children attended Garces High School. For nearly four decades, she worked for the Kern County Fair. Each year during fair time, Barbara spent so much time at the fairgrounds she came to think of her fellow co-workers as her "Fair Family." Barbara was cherished there and many came to pay their respects when she retired as Entry Supervisor in 2000. Barbara loved to host family gatherings for every holiday and particularly enjoyed setting the theme throughout her home to match any occasion. Her grandchildren remember these affairs as opportunities to play games with the cousins and "sneak" treats from her ever present candy dishes. Barbara held a special place in her heart for Yosemite, where she vacationed annually for most of her life. Family recall fondly her impressive campsites, complete with a kitchen sink, toaster and television. Barbara never forgot the fun shared with her daughters on a trip to Hawaii. She relocated in 2009 to Valencia where she remained for her final years. Barbara enjoyed reading, shopping, going out to eat, and See's candy. She had a wicked sense of humor and was active at the local Senior Center where she will be dearly missed. Barbara is survived by her children: Michael (and Carmel) Farnsworth of Valencia, Nancy (and John) McKain of Arroyo Grande, Pattee Akines, and John (and Lisa Marie) Farnsworth of Bakersfield; and her brother Leo Fedewa of Taft. She also is survived by ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. We know Barbara is with our Father in Heaven and finally reunited with Ken, the love of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 AM Tuesday, April 30, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. www.bakersfield.com/obits
