Bernice Alberta Winders Obituary
Bernice Alberta Winders was born November 16, 1918 in Colton, South Dakota. She passed away February 27, 2015 in Bakersfield where she had lived for 70 years. She had worked in the medical field as a medical assistant for 20 years. Bernice (Bea as she was known to her friends) was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church where her parents had been among the founding members. In her earlier years, she canned the produce from her garden and was well known for her caramel corn and chocolate cakes. She loved playing cards and board games and was a champion Scrabble player. Bea took great pride in her family which until her death included five generations.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Christina Koch; husband, James Winders; daughter, Barbara Robinson and her husband Robbie; and sister, Elaine Molinar. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and Bonnie Winders; daughter and son-in-law, Celie and Steve Vanderlei; daughter, Adelle Cooper; two brothers, Bob Koch and Ronald Koch; two sisters, Lois Sabaloni and Irene Richards; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
Bea's family would like to express their appreciation to Optimal Hospice and to Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bea's memory may be made to Optimal Hospice.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015at First Presbyterian Church, 1705 - 17th. St., Bakersfield, 93301. Interment will be private.
