Berniece Gage Harwood Tallman Obituary
After 93 years of an adventerous life, Berniece quietly entered Eternity on January 16, 2014. Greeting her were her mother & father, Lyman & Winnie Gage; brothers Reed, Louis, and Bill Gage; daughters Peggy & husband Bob Coker, Deanna & husband Bill Sutton; and grandson Jason Sutton. When the time comes, she'll be there to welcome her brothers Jay & Bob Gage & families, of GreenValley AZ; sister Betty Kouklis & family of Delano; daughter Linda of Bakersfield; grandchildren: Mark Sutton; Scott & Stephanie Sutton; and Lisa Sutton; all of Bakersfield; Kerri & Juan Rosales; and Rob & Liz Coker, and their families of Texas. twelve great grand children and sixteen great great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces & nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Berniece was the oldest of seven children born to Lyman & Winnie Gage in Huntsville Arkansas. They arrived in California in 1930, and moved to Delano in 1933, where she graduated from Delano High in 1937. Married Elby Harwood in 1937and raised 3 girls, Peggy, Deanna, & Linda. While the children were in school, she was active in the PTA & 4-H Club, and later a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Alpha Rebekah Lodge, Soroptomist Club, and the Delano Chamber of Commerce. She served as church secretary to the First Baptist Church, and was an office manager for a number of businesses before joining with her sister Betty as co-owners of Delano Travel Service. For years, she traveled the world at every opportunity before selling the business.
She married Jerry Tallman in 1992, moved to Bakersfield, meeting new friends and continuing to participate in activites at the Royal Palms Mobile Estates. Her greatest pleasures were found in the fellowship at gatherings of family and friends. She loved to laugh, and enjoyed a fun-filled party. The best thing of all, was that she knew through faith, where she was going.
A special appreciation goes to Sandra, Marian, Dee, Rev. Madi, and others at Optimal Hospice, and those from Neptune Society for their outstanding service.
A planned party, celebrating her 93rd birthday, a "Bon Voyage", and celebration of her life will be held at the Royal Palms Mobile Estates Club House, 608 Club House Drive, one o'clock, Saturday, January 25.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to , church, or organization.
