Betty Jane Smith Obituary
Betty Jane Smith May 6, 1930 - April 9, 2013 Betty passed away peacefully and is now at rest. She was born in Iowa and moved to California with her family at age 5. She spent her youth in Hilmar. After graduating from Hilmar High, she moved to Modesto. Betty worked for the Greenfield School District for over 20 years, loved every minute of it, and made some very long-lasting friendships. Betty loved to crochet, sew, bowl, gamble, volunteer, shop, make her award-winning English toffee, and spend time with her family and friends. She loved to tell people, "I realized early in life that to make people laugh was a good thing," and she did! She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Marie McCormack (husband Tommy), Laurel Tolomei (husband Tony); four grandchildren, Jared Tolomei, Brittany McCormack, Courtney McCormack, Carley Tolomei; and two very special great-grandchildren, Connor McCormack and Lexi Tolomei; as well as her sister, Shirley Qualls of Modesto. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, James Francis Smith. Betty will be missed enormously by all of her family and her many, many dear friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 11:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery, 2739 Panama Lane. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com. Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest www.bakersfield.com/obits
