Beverly Buxton Ridgeway Obituary
Beverly Buxton Ridgeway March 21, 1934-November 27, 2012 Beverly Ridgeway, 78, a lifelong resident of Bakersfield, CA, passed away from a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1952 and then married her devoted husband of 60 years, Ed Ridgeway. She worked at Brocks Department Store and retired from the Kern County Welfare Department as a District Supervisor in the Food Stamp Division. She was involved for many years in the Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Kappa Omega Chapter. Beverly enjoyed her bridge and bunko group, as well as activities with her numerous friends and family. She was especially fond of her Spear Creek family cabin and her friendships with the cabin owners. She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Wellington Buxton; her mother, Louise Buxton Frame; and her sister, Audrey Buxton Luter Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Ed Ridgeway; her daughters, Debra Ridgeway Gerton (Michael) of San Leandro, CA and Barbara Ridgeway Saffle (Rick) of Broken Arrow, OK; her grandchildren, Aaron Saffle (Brandi Marcoe) of San Diego, CA; Robert Saffle (Lela) of Chicago, IL; Michael Gerton, Jr (Alexandra) of Castro Valley, CA; Brian Gerton (Riona) of Sonora, CA; Kirk Saffle (Kate) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Captain Rebecca Gerton (fiance Captain David Sullivan) of the USAF; her great grandchildren, Alicia Reaves, Lilyana Gerton, Cadence Rees, and Vivienne Saffle; her sister Carolyn Calder (Bob) and her brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Lorraine Ridgeway of San Luis Obispo, CA. She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, and numerous, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many friends that she loved very much. Beverly was a fun loving, caring, thoughtful, generous, kind, and devoted wife, friend, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was an absolutely wonderful cook and delightful hostess. All of her family and friends were blessed to enjoy her hospitality. She will be missed desperately. The family expresses their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Kaiser, the caregivers with Home Instead Senior Care and Hoffmann Hospice who lovingly cared for Beverly. Donations to Hoffmann Hospice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. Please gather with us to celebrate her life at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary on Sunday, December 2nd at 5pm for a visitation and Monday, December 3rd at 10 am for chapel and graveside services. www.bakersfield.com/obits
