Beverly Lois Montgomery (Duerksen) January 24, 1931 - June 9, 2012 Beverly Lois Duerksen was born at home on January 24, 1931 in Los Angeles, CA to John and Helen (Thiessen) Duerksen. At the age of 5 she moved to Santa Barbara for a short time and then back to Los Angeles where she attended the Church of the Open Door. She moved to Bakersfield for the first time in 1942 attending Emerson Jr. High and Kern County Union High School (Bakersfield High School) for her first year. At the end of her freshman year of high school her family moved to Wasco. She attended Wasco High and was highly involved in school activities. After graduating high school she attended BIOLA for a short time. In 1949 her parents had to move out of the San Joaquin valley as a result of her father contracting Valley Fever. She moved to San Jose, California where she attended the First Baptist Church and worked at Mount Hermon. In 1951 she attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles majoring in accounting with a minor in secretarial. Upon graduating she went to work for Great Western Savings & Loan on Crenshaw Blvd in Los Angles. She worked for 4 years before being transferred to Bakersfield where she worked for another 12 years. In 1968 while living in Bakersfield she met the love of her life, Wendell Bruce Montgomery III. They married on September 7th 1968. She saw God move mountains and bless her with son Stephen and her daughter Deborah to make her family complete. Her daughter in law Stacey became like a second daughter to Lois 20 years ago. Following Stacey were her treasured grandchildren all of whom she loved very much: Tylor, Cody and August. Lois spent many wonderful times at Hume Lake Christian Camps with family and friends, and for 10 amazing years owned a home up there. As the kids grew older she went back to work for 12 years as the office manager at Calvary Bible Church before retiring. She proactively battled cancer for 18 years never letting it define her, making sure her family was taken care of spiritually and in a million other ways. She continued to travel with her husband Bruce and enjoyed participating in activities at Calvary Bible Church. She was a true Proverbs 29 woman. Mom, nana, and our beloved special friend...you will be missed forever but we - because of our faith in God and the Lord Jesus Christ - will be rejoicing with you soon. This beautiful German woman is in heaven now and would want anyone who is reading this who may have a sliver of a doubt where they are going when they die to know that you must seek a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Her life was and is an ongoing ministry.
