Bill Don Davis 02/24/1945 - 09/10/2013 Bill Don "Poppy" Davis was born in Conway, Arkansas to Homer and Fannie Davis. He had four siblings, Shelby, Richard, Sylvia, and Jerry. Bill and his wife Shirley were married on August 8, 1973 and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Bill resided in Bakersfield since 1990, and previously lived in Delano for 17 years. Bill was devoted to his family. He is survived by four children, Phyllis Jeffers, Lynn Davis, Lisa Stoner, and Brandy Davis. He enjoyed his six grandchildren, Zachary Davis, Jenna and Allison Jeffers, Jolie and Nolan Stoner, and Reid Wyatt, and his great-granddaughter, Jaeden Davis. As a young man, Bill served his country in the United States Navy and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal - Bronze Star. He retired in 2007 after over 20 years at Cal-Trans and 7 years at Delano High School to spend more time on his golf game with his sons-in-law. Bill battled two types of cancer before he went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2013. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated grandfather who will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life for Bill will be held on September 21, 2013 at 9am at The Oaks Community Church, where Bill and his wife attended.
