Billie "Jean" Dobson Jean Dobson went home to be with our Lord and Savior and her loving husband on November 8, 2014 after a long illness. She was 83 years old and resided in Bakersfield, California for most of her adult life. Billie Jean McGill was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on July 17, 1931. She was the youngest child born to father Fred McGill and mother Emma Dobbs. Jean graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1949 and went on to work at the United States Draft Board, where she met her husband, William (Rowdy) Dobson. Jean and Rowdy Dobson were married in New Jersey on March 31, 1952. By 1959, they moved to Lamont where they raised their two sons and eventually would own and operate a Shell Service Station next door to her sister's Coffee Shop. Jean and Rowdy moved to Oregon in 1971 with their youngest son where they built a home and raised cattle on several acres. They moved back to Bakersfield for good in 1982 where they would spend their golden years with their children, grandchildren, friends, and church family. Jean was a long time member of Valley Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church with her family and friends. She loved trips to the coast and RV trips to Arizona with their friends. Jean loved to spend time with her husband and their devotion to each other was evident. Jean adored all of her grandchildren and was a great supporter and encourager.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, William "Rowdy" Dobson; Surviving are her son, Jim Dobson and wife, Janice; son, Randy Dobson and wife, Debi; six grandchildren, Melissa Halstead and husband John, Mendy Hill, Justin Dobson, Teresa Dobson, Jonathan Dobson and wife Jeannette, and Megan Dobson; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November, 16, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial services will begin at 1:00pm on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA.
