Billy Joe "Bill" Cox Obituary

Bill was the third child born to Villard and Edith Cox. He and his two siblings were raised in Taft, California, where he met three of his lifelong friends Jim McDanials, Gary Sweeney and Dick Rhoades. Bill cherished their friendship and enjoyed his lunch dates with his best friends. Bill was a devoted father of two children, Greg and Debbie, from his first marriage. In the fall of 1971 Bill married the love of his life Billie Joyce. They spent 39 beautiful years together before the Lord called her home in 2010.

Bill was employed by Arco Oil and Gas for many years prior to opening his own Backhoe service business. After he retired, Bill worked for Sheffield Oil then became a school crossing guard, where he was adored by the children as much as he adored them.

Bill was a tremendous athlete in his youth and became an avid sports fan who faithfully supported the Dodgers, Rams and the USC Trojans. Bill loved supporting his four grandchildren in their respective sporting events and was their biggest fan. He always encouraged them in everything they did.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, Parents Villard and Edith Cox, brother Jack Cox and sister Joyce Evans. Survivors include his son, Greg Cox and wife Anne Marie, daughter Debbie Kirschenman and husband Brian. Grandchildren, Janelle Cox, Matthew Kirschenman, Ryane Cox and Kristyn Escalante. Great grandchildren Addyson and Liam Kirschenman. Sister-in-law Pat Cox along with three nieces and two nephews.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday January 16, 2016 1:00 p.m. @ Fellowship Baptist Church Hall 3001 Stine Rd. Bakersfield, CA 93309.
