Bonifacio Mesa Obituary
Bonifacio Mesa June 5, 1922 - July 10, 203 Bonifacio was born in a box car June 5, 1922 in Caliente CA, 91 years ago. Boni Mesa, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother uncle and friend to all he met, passed away to be with the lord on July 10, 2013. He joins his wife Lilly of 48 years, mother and father Juana Mesa and Felipe Mesa, brother Robert and sister Linda with our heavenly father. He is survived by three children, Susie and her husband Steve, Paul and wife Arlene, Larry and wife Dolores, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Pete and wife Pauline and many nephews and nieces. He retired from PG & E after 36 years of service but his legacy of a strong work ethic and friendships have continued through their weekly Thursday morning breakfast with fellow retirees. Mr. Mesa was known for his love of yard work, sharp wit and complaining about "his" Los Angeles Dodgers". Everyone who was blessed to have known Boni, knew his was a proud WWII veteran. He rarely left his home without his "Once a veteran always a veteran" cap. His favorite past times included watching black and white westerns, eating and being a well-earned center of attention. He loved being with the Wavehogs and always smiled when on our annual camping trips, the small children greeted him each day at the beach with "Good morning Grandpa Kahuna" and a kiss on the cheek. After the love of his life passed away 17 years ago, Boni came to live with his daughter Susie and her husband Steve and children Nikki and her husband Carlos, Brenna, Sean and Aaron. The blessing of his companionship, words of wisdom, life's lessons and unique sense of history and humor were shared with Susie's husband and children and new family members and friends who came to adopt Boni as their own. Visitations will be held at St. Francis Church, 900 H Street, Tuesday July 16 from 6PM to 7 PM with rosary immediately following. Mass will be held Wednesday at 9 AM at St. Francis with military interment to be held at Greenlawn Cemetery 3700 River Blvd. Immediately following gravesite services, fellowship will be held at St. Francis Hall until 2 PM. www.bakersfield.com/obits
