03/22/1925 - 07/28/2014 Obituary
Pathe, Bonnie Louise (Winger).â€" Chapel services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. for Bonnie Louise (Winger) Pathe, 89, who passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, in Visalia, California. Bishop Randy Clemens of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will conduct the services and interment.
Bonnie was born to Samuel Loree Winger and Mary Helen Van Swearingen Winger on March 22, 1925 in Taft. Her father worked in petroleum exploration and as the family moved to jobsites; Bonnie grew up in several coastal and Central California towns, including Long Beach, Santa Maria, Orcutt, Oildale, Taft, and Bakersfield. Bonnie graduated from Bakersfield High School, Bakersfield College, and the University of California at Berkley.
When she met Lonnie Roy Pathe while on a blind date with another boy in Bakersfield, she felt like she had known Lonnie before. When she started school at Bakersfield College, Lonnie was in all her classes except one. When he saw her walk into their first class, he knew one day he would marry her. They married on August 8, 1947, shortly after graduating together from the University of California. They lived in Bakersfield until in 1961, when Lonnie's work took them to Los Angeles where they lived in La Mirada, La Habra, and Tustin, California. In 1975, work brought them back to Bakersfield. Lonnie passed away in 1991, and in 2005, Bonnie moved to Visalia, California.
Bonnie started teaching in La Mirada and continued for 27 years. In Bakersfield she taught at Panama, Eastwood, and Stine elementary schools.
Bonnie is remembered as a mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. She was always a gratuitous lady and a member of the Bakersfield Women's University Club and various bridge clubs throughout her life. She was broadly versed and liked to do things properly. She loved flowers and trees and could name them all. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Monan, of Bakersfield. Her children are David Allan Pathe, Coronado, CA; Alice (Pathe) McCowan, Ventura, CA; Bruce Allan Pathe, deceased; and Claudia Lynn (Pathe) Jordan, Visalia, CA. She leaves 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
