My dear Family,
I only last night heard the news of Brecks passing. Though I have not lived near you for quite some time, your memories are still alive and precious to me. Uncle Breck always made me feel a deep connection to life; that there was more to what resided on the surface. I remember watching he and mom talking when I was younger, his soft seriousness, quirky laughter and sudden outbursts of opinion and wisdom. I remember his red car. How cool I thought it was, though I do not recall if it was a Camero or Trans Am (Sorry Uncle Breck.) But most of all, I remember how much my Mother loved him, how much she loved all of you. And I know in my soul, she would never let Breck walk this journey alone. I do not know your religious beliefs, but I know your belief in Jane. So allow this to comfort you. They are together, laughing and crying and telling stories as they rest and watch over us, lovingly mocking the stupid things we do and cheering us on as we continue down the paths we must journey.
Your loving Grandson and Nephew.

Dear Hal and family,
I live in Fresno, but I check the Bakersfield Californian Obituaries every day on the
computer. Today, I was shocked when I read the name Chapin. You
and I go back a helluva lot of years. When something hurts you........it
also, hurts me. It's tough enough to lose older members of a family, but
losing a son is incomprehensible. I have three boys.....all are healthy.
Three boys is a full-time job. My bride, Marie Adoree Roux Hicks decided
she had enough, so she went to help her sister and mother clean up
Heaven! I will be praying for your son and your family.
May I offer my most profound condolences.
