Brett Mooney Obituary

Brett Mooney February 29, 1972 - November 4, 2010 Brett Mooney was born February 29, 1972, and went to be with his beloved Jesus Christ on November 4, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident. Brett was born at Memorial Hospital and graduated eighth grade from Carden School. The family moved to a ranch near Kernville. Brett spent his high school years at Kern Valley High, where he formed many lifetime friendships on the track and tennis teams, as well as raising champion hogs and sheep in the FFA program. Brett loved to ski, surf, hunt, and fish. He put on an annual quail hunt at the ranch for his Sunday school class from Valley Baptist Church. Brett loved his horses, mules, and his dog, Patches; and there were many days spent riding the hills and canyons around the ranch with friends and family. Starting at about 13 years old, Brett and his father started at 20-year alliance with R.M. Pyles Boys Camp, packing supplies on mules to Pyles Wilderness Camp at Lion Meadows, along with his most beloved friends, Reid Hopkins, Duke Hingley, and Jack McGee. He also assisted other ranchers in branding calves. He would take time to catch golden trout while in the Sierras on pack trips. Brett, with his mom and dad, enjoyed restoring and riding Vintage British Motorcycles, especially riding his bike on Highway 1. Brett was an active member of Valley Baptist and enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School. His Christian knowledge and life grew tremendously under the mentoring of his pastors, Phil Neighbors, Brandon Holthaus, and Roger Spradlin. Brett leaves behind his loving parents, David and Barbara Mooney; his special sister, Gabrielle and husband Desmond Lopez; and his beloved boxer, Amos. Loving Brett was easy with his beautiful blue eyes, easy manner, his laughter, and bright smile. His family wishes to thank you for the loving cards, phone calls, and visits during this difficult time. Remember Brett with love!! Service will be held today Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave. Greenlawn Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mooney at my son's parent teacher conf. From the moment I met him I knew he was a great person and an awsome teacher. He was just so happy & cheerfull. I knew he loved his job. I remember him being so happy because his class won a attendance award. My only regret is the small amount of time my son got to spend with him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My codolences to all his family.

Brett was an amazing person! His gentle soul, his kindness, and his laughter touched so many lives. He was always true to his family, friends, and OUR Lord. I had the pleasure of attending highschool with Brett, and shared times with him even after graduation. We were recently reconnected again, and I am so thankful. My deepest sympathies go out to the Mooney Family, for I know this is such a great loss. Brett, I will always remember your amazing ability to bring out the best in people, and when you came into a room, it seemed to light up with you in it... I can only imagine what Heaven looks like now. Thank you for being a friend to so many of us. Your family can be proud of the man you became. You will be missed. God Bless.

You will always be in our thoughts and prayers as well as in our hearts. You were my daughter Isabella's kindergaten teacher last year. She just fell in love with you, she is at such a loss right now missing and shedding tears for you. She tells me that you are in heaven dancing with the angels. You have made such a strong girl out of her thanks to you she is a very confident little girl.
