Calvin Eugene "Gene" Langston Obituary
Calvin Eugene "Gene" Langston, Jr. passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in Bakersfield, at the age of 78. Gene was born on July 28, 1936 in Compton, CA to Calvin and Edith Langston. In 1941 the family moved to a small farm in Artesia, CA where he enjoyed a wonderful childhood. Family vacations were always to the High Sierras, camping and fishing.
Gene worked for the Kern County Department of Agriculture as an inspector and biologist from 1968 until his retirement in 1998.
At times through his life he had many hobbies, such as woodworking, entomology (collecting insects) and restoring classic Mustangs. Gene's passion for fishing began when his grandparents, mom and dad took him fishing at the age of three. He loved it then, and loved it to the end.
In retirement, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, deep-sea fishing, his many pets, and he looked forward to his annual fishing trips with his son, Randy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kathy, his son Randy (Pam) Langston, his daughters Rosalind (William) Sass, Donna Langston, Leslie Griffith, and Jesse Hill, his grandchildren Randall, Tamara, Jason & Emily, and one great-grandchild, Jordan. He is also survived by his sisters, Lynda (William) Fredendall and Janice (Butch) Penticoff and many nieces and nephews.
